Geographic information systems (GIS) have come quite close to maturity these days. Not only is software available freely to perform spatial analyses, but the data is also becoming more open.
We feel that physical barriers can also be erased using GIS. While there is a digital divide between the more and less developed worlds, people can celebrate what they have in common based on similarities in their geographic features. The purpose of this website is to introduce techniques to using GIS for discovery and sharing.
